Research to develop a foundation for outcomes-based purchasing of addictions treatment
The Foundation's Substance Abuse Policy Research Program was designed to provide support for investigators to conduct policy research on a variety of subjects directed at helping the country reduce the harm caused by substance abuse. This project will build a foundation for outcome-based purchase of treatment services for alcohol and other drug-use disorders. The program will utilize findings from existing databases from both public and private treatment sectors to design and pilot a treatment outcomes monitoring system that can serve to provide feedback on the associations between treatments delivered and clinical outcomes. Such a system will add accountability for treatment performance, refine benchmarks, and serve as a vehicle for treatment improvement.
