Establishment of breast cancer survivor camps

This grant provides start-up support for the Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation to establish Breast Cancer Survivor Camps. The purpose of the camps is to help women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer develop mind-body healing approaches (e.g., Moyers' Power of Healing) and the "fighting spirit" that has been shown to increase ten-year cancer survival rates. The camp experience will be designed to accommodate women at any point in their treatment (except immediately after surgery) or in the post-treatment phase. The camp will focus on three key components: (1) challenging physical or artistic activity; (2) techniques for achieving health and wellness; and (3) developing spiritual awareness. The combination of these components will provide breast cancer survivors with mind-body healing techniques that will aid their recovery and survival. The Breast Cancer Survivor Camps will be open to all women with the diagnosis of breast cancer.
