Demonstration of a community-based curriculum to educate Medicaid recipients to use managed care
The purpose of this project is to prepare Medicaid recipients for the transition to managed care. This project will support the testing and dissemination of a patient education program on the basic concepts of Medicaid managed care. This training is carried out by volunteer peer educators from community-based organizations. Foundation funds will support the training of the volunteer peer educators and human service providers who work directly with Medicaid recipients, and the production of low-literacy handbooks for use in the workshops, which will take place in New York City and Philadelphia. Other funders have been approached to fund expansion of the project to sites in California, Illinois, upstate New York, and North Carolina.
