School-based preventive dentistry program for children ages 2 through 12

The Foundation's program, New Jersey Health Initiatives, was designed to support projects in New Jersey that develop new approaches to resolving the state's health care needs, focusing on the Foundation's goal areas.Poor dental health can lead to disease and malnutrition. This is a project to expand dental care and education to children in six schools and child care centers in Newark. Implemented through the joint efforts of local community organizations and dental care providers, volunteers from the New Jersey Dental Association/Society will treat 3,000 children. Specifically, they will provide: daily administration of fluoride at school or day care, annual dental exams, application of plastic sealants, classroom and parental education about oral health and hygiene, and home visits when indicated.
