Project to improve access to health care services to the medically underserved

The Foundation's program, New Jersey Health Initiatives, was designed to support projects in New Jersey that develop new approaches to resolving the state's health care needs, focusing on the Foundation's goal areas.Under this project, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center will coordinate care to the medically underserved of Newark's Central Ward at the Center for Family Life at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church. Advance Practice Nurses will provide health education and prevention information, routine health screening, and treatment of common illnesses and other health problems using established protocols. This model will emphasize prevention and wellness, while encouraging use of scheduled appointments rather than emergency care.
