In Spring 1998, the American Medical Association, with the collaboration of numerous partners, will host the National Alcohol Policy XI Conference in Chicago. This will be the 11th in a series of national conferences dedicated to discussing innovative environmental policy approaches and research for preventing alcohol-related problems among youth. This grant provides partial funding for the conference and also provides the Foundation's substance abuse grantees the opportunity to focus on alcohol environmental issues by participating in a national forum. The goals of this conference are to: (1) advance the understanding of alcohol environmental policy (science and practice) approaches to reducing alcohol-related problems; (2) build skills of community groups, health professionals, and policy makers toward implementing science-based alcohol environmental strategies for prevention; and (3) strengthen networks of alcohol prevention interested groups at all levels (community, state, and national).
