Research on attitudes about public health
This contract provides funds to RSM, Inc., to conduct two focus groups with rural medical and public health professionals, examining attitudes, perceptions, and beliefs about the relative roles of medicine and public health in the changing system. The results will be used to assist in the development and dissemination of the Foundation-funded public health monograph; to help with the implementation of the Turning Point program; and to inform Foundation staff. The Foundation is currently funding a number of projects to develop and advance the practice of public health. Currently, barriers exist between medicine, public health, and the professionals working in these fields. Qualitative information about the attitudes of professionals and students that contribute to those barriers will be of use to Foundation staff, the National Program Office and National Advisory Committee of the Turning Point program, and staff working on the public health monograph. This supplementary funding will provide support for two additional focus groups, these with rural practitioners.
