Drug and violence prevention program for at-risk preschool children and preteens
The Foundation's program, New Jersey Health Initiatives, was designed to support projects in New Jersey that develop new approaches to resolving the state's health care needs, focusing on the Foundation's goal areas. This project will serve two groups of children: pre-school children living in a drug and violence-filled environment in need of life survival skills; and at-risk pre-teens, living in homes where there is past or current drug abuse. The pre-school population will be educated in a 10-week comprehensive substance abuse/violence prevention program to be conducted at seven pre-school centers. Approximately 100 pre-teens will be counseled in eight weekly sessions to develop skills to make informed decisions, avoid or cope with drug-related situations, and learn ways to overcome peer pressure. The pre-school program is unique to Camden, New Jersey.
