Conference on policy issues related to implementation of AHCPR's smoking clinical practice guidelines on smoking cessation

The purpose of this project is to plan and conduct a conference on policy issues critical to the dissemination and adoption of the AHCPR Smoking Cessation Clinical Practice Guidelines scheduled to be released in April 1996. During the six-month period of this grant, Pinney Associates will: (1) convene a Conference Planning Committee representing diverse interest groups and stakeholders; (2) form a liaison with a range of professional societies whose memberships will be crucial to implementing the AHCPR guidelines (e.g., AMA, APHA, American Psychiatric Association, Society of Behavioral Medicine) for assistance in identifying conference attendees; (3) finalize the conference agenda, logistics and roster of invited speakers; and (4) conduct a 1-1/2 day conference, to be held in Washington, D.C., for an invited audience of 175-200 individuals representing diverse disciplines, interest groups, and stakeholders The Foundation is providing partial support for the conference, which is being co-sponsored by the Office on Smoking and Health and the National Cancer Institute. It is expected that this conference will serve as a timely national forum for the identification/discussion of key policy issues related to the new AHCPR tobacco guidelines, and will enhance the dissemination, adoption, and implementation of the guidelines.
