Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program

The Foundation's Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program was designed to provide technical assistance and grant support to help adult day centers develop and strengthen innovative center-based, in-home, and other respite programs for people with chronic cognitive disorders--particularly dementia. The Alzheimer's Activity Center, located in San Jose, California, is a social day care model which is currently serving up to 75 clients per day, all with dementia, with the potential to serve over 100 clients per day. Under this grant, the grantee will expand its operations by building a residential care home at the current site. This project will have 10 permanent beds and two rotating respite beds. Any long-term beds not filled will be offered for short-term respite. The opening of the new building, which will operate 7 days a week, will facilitate the expansion of day care to include Saturdays, serving an additional 30 clients initially and building to capacity.
