Practice Sights: State Primary Care Development Strategies

The Foundation's program, Practice Sights: State Primary Care Development Strategies, was designed to challenge states--through collaborations among state agencies, communities, provider groups, and health professionals schools--to improve the distribution of primary care providers in medically underserved areas. The Texas Department of Health will develop a plan to implement the Texas Community Oriented Primary Care Practice Sights Initiative. The initiative will result in specific policy and program changes, including a community-based needs assessment methodology, expanded technical assistance capacity, and development of models of "collaborative practice" for primary care delivery. The project will focus on reducing the number of medically underserved communities and improving the abilities of communities to maintain and support local primary health care systems. The Department will work in coordination with the Foundation's Generalist Physician Initiative site at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
