Technical assistance and direction for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholars in Health Policy Research program

The Foundation's Scholars in Health Policy Research Program was designed to provide postdoctoral training targeted to the most promising graduates of programs in the three disciplines of economics, political science, and sociology to advance their involvement in health policy research.This grant provides technical assistance and direction support to the Scholars in Health Policy Research Program. During the period of the grant, the Institute for Health Policy at Brandeis's Florence Heller Graduate School will conduct the following activities: (1) develop application review processes for training institutions and for individual Scholars; (2) manage a competition among academic institutions to determine the three Program training sites; (3) develop a marketing/recruitment strategy to attract Scholar candidates; (4) convene a National Advisory Committee to assist in reviewing applications and in making recommendations to the Foundation on both site selection and Scholar selection; (5) develop a core curriculum in conjunction with the three training sites; (6) develop and implement a Program Management Information System to track both Scholars and unsuccessful applicants over time; and (7) work with Washington-based policy organizations to arrange for placement of Scholars in one-year policy research positions. Brandeis has an established reputation in the field of health policy research and will afford valuable technical assistance to the Program.
