Study of health effects on children from others' tobacco use
The purpose of this project is a study of the morbidity and mortality among children due to the use of tobacco by others. The investigator will identify the health problems in children that may be caused by second hand, or passive, smoking. For each condition an attributable risk will be calculated, and these will then be aggregated to develop an estimate of the overall disease impact of passive smoking on patterns of childhood illness and death in the United States. The results of this study will be submitted to a major policy journal for publication.
