Radio programming on health for the Latino population
This grant supports the establishment of a "health desk" at Noticiero Latino, a Spanish-language news program that provides daily 10-minute news segments over Radio Bilingue, a nonprofit radio network carried by 45 U.S. public and commercial stations. The project will include not only news and commentary on health care and health policy issues as they affect Latinos, but also a health information and education service, geared toward disease prevention--particularly drug and alcohol abuse--and appropriate use of the health care system. Because the news program broadcasts in Spanish, it reaches a particularly difficult-to-access audience. A goal for the Foundation also is to connect us to groups it doesn't ordinarily reach and provide a potential outreach opportunity. Marketing of the service, focus groups about the content of the health program, and an alcohol and substance abuse prevention component also are included.
