Evaluation of alternative rehabilitation and critical dimensions of care

The purpose of this project is to evaluate effectiveness and cost of alternative approaches to rehabilitation care for the over age 65 population. The major objectives are to: (1) determine the effectiveness and cost of innovative rehabilitation alternatives relative to traditional options; and (2) identify the critical dimensions of rehabilitation care that influence outcomes and costs. This project will be integrated with the ongoing national HCFA-funded study of the cost-effectiveness of institutional Medicare rehabilitation options for which national data collection will be initiated in fall 1991. It is expected that the findings from this evaluation will be important for the development of new reimbursement strategies and more cost-effective service delivery arrangements.
