Assessment of a community program to reduce youth substance abuse
This grant provides continued support for the evaluation of a community-wide substance abuse prevention, assessment and case management program for youth in the Greater Bridgeport area. The study will assess the program's goals to: (1) implement a successful prevention, assessment and case management model; (2) establish a permanent base of support; and (3) identify and treat younger children (grades K-6). Some of the activities to be included in the evaluation are data collection on clients and their families from interviews, school records and treatment records at the time of assessment and six months after the initial assessment (N=approximately 650), repeat surveys of students in grades 7 to 12 (N=3,500) regarding their use of drugs and alcohol, data about utilization rates and associated charges for clients using the case management component, etc. Data from these and other activities will be summarized in four reports.
