Improving the Quality of Hospital Care
The Foundation's program, Improving the Quality of Hospital Care, was designed to help individual hospitals develop the means to identify and address problems in the quality of patient care. This grant is to develop a consortium to improve quality of care in 10 rural and urban not-for-profit hospitals in 3 states centered around Salt Lake City. A resource center will be developed and located in a newly incorporated organization. The objectives are: (1) assess the members' needs for assistance with quality improvement; (2) develop and test a committee structure to coordinate the affairs of the consortium and an administrative structure to manage the resources in the resource center while providing services to member hospitals; (3) develop a consortium agenda for project implementation; and (4) develop and test new products (tools and methods) for use in hospital quality assurance. The expected outcomes are: (1) a fully functional consortium in which the resource center operates to meet the needs of member hospitals; (2) expansion of the consortium; and (3) a viable plan for the consortium to improve quality in member hospitals.
