Improving the Quality of Hospital Care

The Foundation's program, Improving the Quality of Hospital Care, was designed to help individual hospitals develop the means to identify and address problems in the quality of patient care. This grant is to develop a consortium of 11 midwestern not-for-profit hospitals, held together by their membership in Interhealth, which functions as a mini hospital association. A resource center will be developed within Interhealth's central office. The objectives are: (1) assess and discuss the consortium members' needs and interests regarding resources for quality improvement; (2) through meetings and discussions in individual hospitals, develop an agenda for the consortium; (3) educate hospital members on the management of change strategy; and (4) pilot test a quality improvement project in each member hospital. The expected outcomes will be evidence that quality of care projects can be successfully added to Interhealth's agenda, and a viable plan to expand the consortium's contribution to improving patient care in member hospitals.
