The Foundation's Nursing Services Manpower Development Program was designed to encourage and test new approaches for attracting people into the field of nursing services and to advance the knowledge and skills of both new entrants and those already in service. This project is designed to "accelerate" progression through the Baccalaureate Program at the University of Indiana School of Nursing, Northwest Campus, by enabling 14 qualified high school juniors and seniors per year to enroll for dual credit, both high school and college, in the general education courses required for a BSN. The project will provide the financial assistance, counseling, social support and transportation needed for participants to complete one year of college credit while still in high school. This collaborative effort between a private, not-for-profit hospital, a public university and two public schools represents a unique model for the recruitment and retention of bright high school students into nursing school.
