Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Program on the Care of Critically Ill Hospitalized Adults

The Foundation's Program on the Care of Critically Ill Hospitalized Adults (SUPPORT) was designed to support a national collaborative effort aimed at enabling physicians and their critically ill adult patients to determine appropriate clinical management strategies based on predicted outcomes and on the values and preferences of patients and families.This grant supports technical assistance and direction for this program. The principal objectives of the project are to: (1) collect, clean, and conduct quality checks on data from the five sites; (2) coordinate data analysis with the sites and with Duke University statisticians developing the statistical methods; (3) direct activities of the three subcommittees (publishing, steering, and Phase II design) and the technical advisory committee; (4) supervise and provide technical assistance to interviewers and chart abstractors; (5) direct collaborative design of the planned Phase II; and (6) conduct the annual National Advisory Committee meeting and the five regularly scheduled meetings of the principal investigators and technical advisory committee.
