The Foundation's program, Local Funding Partnerships, was designed to continue a matching grants program to establish partnerships between RWJF and local grant makers in support of innovative, community-based projects that improve health and health care for vulnerable populations. This grant project will establish a Family Resource Center to provide comprehensive, coordinated services to victims of child abuse and also to their families. Crisis intervention and support services will be provided during the initial disclosure period and services such as medical exams and treatment as well as housing, food and emergency financial aid will be provided to the victim and family. The program will help families reconstruct a healthy environment and provide specialized treatment services and linkages with appropriate agencies. It is estimated 35 families could be served in year 1, and 75 families per year thereafter, resulting in approximately 1,000 encounters in the first year and 3,500 annually thereafter. RWJF funds will be applied to the health and mental health needs of the children and families served. Local funding partners include: the Kalamazoo Foundation, Irving S. Gilmore Foundation, and the Dorothy U. Dalton Foundation. State and local government agencies, the United Way and other voluntary institutions will finance the costs of the project in the future.
