Health component of a project for children in deprived communities
The Beethoven Project (Center for Successful Child Development) is a long-term demonstration of counseling, educational, health and supportive services aimed at preventing the health and developmental deficits experienced by infants and children from deprived families. Key components are: (1) trained home visiting staff to provide counseling and teaching in prenatal care, nutrition, and infant and child care; (2) a staff in clinical social work and early childhood education to conduct a drop-in center for pregnant and parenting women, a toddler school, and a Head Start program; and (3) a comprehensive primary care health program which will be integrated with the first two components.
