Educational program for staff and trustees in health philanthropy

Grantmakers In Health (GIH) is the country's only organization specifically devoted to helping staff and trustees of foundations and corporations engaged in health philanthropy to become more productive. To accomplish this goal, GIH has developed its National Education Series, focused each year on a major health topic with two or three workshops devoted to the issue. Additional efforts undertaken by GIH include: (1) providing technical assistance to regional associations of grantmakers on health issues for their meetings; (2) publishing a newsletter GRANTSCENE; and (3) conducting periodic surveys of health giving among grantmaking institutions. Since 1982, the Foundation has provided $50,000 annually in support of GIH. With an annual budget of more than $300,000, GIH has support from 39 other foundation and corporations. For 1988-90, Foundation funds will be used for the National Education Series -- RWJF will support approximately 45 percent of this major initiative of GIH. Support from the Foundation after 1990 will depend upon GIH's ability to develop a long-term funding base.
