School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program (Carver High School)

The Foundation's School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program was designed to strengthen the capacity of communities and families to meet the multiple health and health-related needs of adolescents by utilizing local public secondary schools as a principal locus of care.This is a first-phase grant awarded under the 19-site national program to provide comprehensive health services to the 1,450 adolescents at Carver Senior and middle schools and day care facilities for 50 infants of school-age parents. Services to be provided include medical treatment, educational programs, counseling, and dental services. Medical backup will be provided by Tulane University Hospital clinic and Charity Hospital. Clinic will be staffed by a full-time project director, NP, two social workers, and a public health nurse; part-time physician and nutritionist. Dental services will be available in a mobile van staffed with a dental hygienist and a dentist two afternoons a week.
