Development of a geriatric care curriculum for Associate Degree RNs
Although the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation became a national philanthropy in 1972 and has operated on a national scale since then, it also has continued funding a limited number of local institutions and projects in the New Brunswick area and throughout New Jersey. It does so in part to honor the legacy of its founder, and in part to recognize the special responsibilities to the communities and the state in which it is located. This grant will finance a one-year work program among the nursing faculty of Middlesex County College to develop a curriculum in geriatric nursing care. The College's decision to institute this curriculum is the result of a planning grant approved in July 1986. Introduction of the curriculum will establish geriatrics as an academic focus within the College's Department of Nursing. Under RWJF's planning grant, the essential content of the curriculum was delineated. Under this grant, the nursing faculty will: (1) translate the design into actual classroom courses and clinical teaching experiences; (2) prepare related teaching materials; and (3) train faculty members who will be responsible for conducting the new program.
