School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program (Barringer High School)

The Foundation's School-Based Adolescent Health Care Program was designed to strengthen the capacity of communities and families to meet the multiple health and health-related needs of adolescents by utilizing local public secondary schools as a principal locus of care.This is a first-phase grant awarded under the 19-site national program to provide comprehensive health services to the 1,800 adolescents at Barringer High School and support for a day care center. The clinic is staffed by an adolescent specialist (MD), clinical nurse specialist, full-time RN, part-time social worker and a clerical person. UMDNJ will subcontract with the Children's Hospital of NJ for provision of school-based clinic staff and services. The clinic will be a satellite of Children's Hospital of NJ. A maximum of 19 infants and toddlers will be accommodated in the day care center with no more than 12 children in the 6-18 months age range.
