Research on the outcomes and costs of hospital nursing
The purpose of this project is to gather objective data on the interrelationships of nursing practice, nursing care and patient outcomes. A theoretical model using structural equation analysis will be tested in a 33-bed hospital unit. Variables include hours worked, acuity, census, labor costs, patient satisfaction, length of stay, incidents and infection. A secondary objective is strengthening the relationship between the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Nursing Division and Rutgers University College of Nursing by placement of a Nursing Administration Research Fellow in a teaching role at Rutgers University College of Nursing.
