Research on home-monitoring and patient education system for controlling diabetes
The Foundation's Research and Development Program to Improve Patient Functional Status was designed to stimulate projects focusing on the problems and illnesses that can significantly impair infants, children, and adults.Diabetes is a disease which causes many long-term complications and functional problems and is encountered frequently by primary care physicians. Recent research has indicated that tight control of diabetes has reduced the frequency and severity of complications. The innovation to be tested in this study is a home-monitoring and patient education system for diabetic control which will be conducted in two family practice sites in West Virginia. The impact of this special program on both the clinical and functional status of patients will be assessed.
