Baseline study of chronic disease care patterns
The Foundation's Research and Development Program to Improve Patient Functional Status was designed to stimulate projects focusing on the problems and illnesses that can significantly impair infants, children, and adults. The care of ambulatory chronic disease patients is complicated by the need to consider patients' individual circumstances as well as the usual medical management problems. This project will examine the current patterns of care of patients with five common chronic diseases, grouped by disease and patient characteristics, to provide baseline data to determine if a better intervention can be developed. Sources of data will include the University of Southern California Medical Activities and Manpower Project, the 1976 National Health Interview Survey, and the Area Resource File from the U.S. Bureau of Health Professions.
