Training of rural family practice assistants

Under this grant, the University of California at Davis will begin a program to provide registered nurses who live in rural areas in northern California additional training as family nurse practitioners. The nurses will be flown weekly to Davis to attend classes one day a week for a one-year period, and a practicing physician will serve as a preceptor for the clinical training phase and subsequently employ the nurse in the expanded role.
