Program to strengthen management capabilities of academic medical centers
This grant provides support for the management advancement program of the Association of American Medical Colleges. It was recognized that management skills were needed by the administrative leadership of the nation's academic health science centers if they were to be prepared to manage their increasingly complex institutions. Most medical school deans and vice presidents for health affairs are chosen on the basis of their standing as teachers and scientists and are, in general, unprepared to manage these multimillion-dollar institutions.
