The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is excited to continue the work of Forward Promise in collaboration with philanthropic, government, practitioner and research partners. This week, the Foundation is hosting a gathering of leaders in the males of color field—including practitioners, scholars, policymakers, funders, media-maker and advocates currently engaged in efforts explicit in their aims to improve the life outcomes for males of color in America—in an effort to help create a venue for ongoing information sharing and strategy development.

Forward Promise is not the focus of this gathering.

Rather, the Foundation hopes to build upon the field-building efforts and venues that have been supported over the last several years by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Open Society Foundations Campaign for Black Male Achievement, the California Endowment, and other philanthropies committed to these populations. Ultimately, RWJF hopes that this gathering will continue the important work of providing intellectual, relational, and physical space for field leaders to proactively identify key components necessary to strengthen the infrastructure of the institutions and networks necessary to improve the life outcomes of males of color.

I will follow up with an update here on the forum after the event in Philadelphia on June 13 and 14. I'll also be tweeting from the event (follow along at http://twitter.com/mzsimmons), as will the Vulnerable Populations Twitter account, using the hashtag #malesofcolor.

In the meantime, you can view the event program for an overview of the agenda, speakers, and participants.

Best wishes.
