Forward Promise Innovation Grantee: $500,000 over 30 months
Supporting the Dignity in Schools Campaign's model code and its call for a moratorium on out-of-school suspensions
Funding will build the capacity of the Dignity in Schools Campaign’s national network of members to make change in their states and school districts. The efforts will focus on implementing policies to reduce suspensions, limiting policing in schools, and implementing positive approaches to discipline. The Campaign will convene members to provide them with best practices and training in the areas of leadership development, positive discipline, communications, and data analysis.
In 2012, the Dignity in Schools Campaign launched its Solutions Not Suspensions initiative to call for a moratorium on out-of-school suspensions. The Campaign also released a Model Code on Education and Dignity to serve as a set of recommended policies for states, districts, and schools to help end practices that push students out of school.
Funds from RWJF will:
- Build the capacity of the Dignity in Schools Campaign’s national network to implement the Model Code; and
- Build the capacity of its members to make local and statewide change.
