Technical assistance and direction for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars program, 2014

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars program was designed to increase the stature and academic standing of nursing faculty and draw more nurses to teaching careers by creating a cadre of national leaders in academic nursing through career development awards to outstanding junior nursing faculty.Thus far, the program has accepted six cohorts (2008-2013) totaling 78 RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholars. Three cohorts (42 Scholars) have completed the program. The cohorts are diverse (men and other underrepresented minorities) and the Scholars come from large research intensive universities as well as smaller non-research intensive colleges. During this seventh year (December 1, 2013 to November 30, 2014) of the Nurse Faculty Scholars (NFS) Program, the National Program Office (NPO) will support applicants in preparing their response to the 2014 CFP and will work with the NFS National Advisory Committee (NAC) to select the seventh cohort of Scholars. The NFS NPO also will continue to provide technical assistance for leadership, match the Scholars with national nursing mentors; work closely with the National Advisory Committee to review the program goals and outcomes; develop an orientation meeting for the new cohort with a cohort building experience; conduct two in-person meetings to support the core academic leadership curriculum; and hold webinars for potential Scholar applicants, Deans of nursing programs and for program finalists and their financial officers. The call for applications for the 2014 cohort will be released on October 15, 2013. Twelve Scholars will be selected for this cohort.
