Developing a plan for workforce development to accelerate accreditation for the California Department of Public Health

The Foundation's initiative, Advancing Accreditation in Large Jurisdictions, was designed to supply financial and technical assistance to big cities and states to catalyze application to the Public Health Accreditation Board for accreditation of their public health agencies. This grant will enable the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, to support the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in developing and implementing a plan for workforce development and succession that will meet the standards and measures required to achieve accreditation status from the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). This support will accelerate the process for CDPH to apply for and achieve accreditation. CDPH will also receive technical assistance from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and participate actively in the state community of practice's Web-assisted calls and share promising practices. The deliverables will consist of documentation of the workforce-development plan and confirmation of CDPH's application to PHAB before December 1, 2014.
