Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity program, 2013-2014

The Foundation's program, Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity, was designed to support investigator-initiated research to identify and assess environmental and policy influences with the greatest potential to improve healthy eating and weight patterns among the nation's children. This grant supports continued technical assistance and direction for the Healthy Eating Research (HER) program. Under this project, a range of activities will be carried out, including managing application and review processes for the 2013 Call for Proposals, including Annual Round grants and RWJF New Connections grants through Healthy Eating Research, and a greater emphasis on rapid-response, quick-strike studies and commissioned research (e.g., papers, research reviews, issue briefs, and analyses/studies) to advance RWJF's four nutrition-related policy advocacy priorities; enhanced efforts to connect with policymakers, advocates, and other end-users by providing nonpartisan research and analysis; continued collaborative partnerships with other RWJF programs and other funders; field-building activities, such as the 2014 HER Annual Grantee Meeting, grantee working group coordination, and technical assistance; nimble responses to requests for nonpartisan research and analysis and requests for technical assistance from government agencies, advocacy organizations/groups, and policymakers; and program evaluation activities. No RWJF funds will be used for lobbying. Interactions with policymakers will be limited to providing nonpartisan research, analysis, and information that does not address legislation, and responses to written requests for technical assistance. No changes may be made to the nature or scope of the program or project being supported by this grant without the express written consent of the Foundation.
