Advancing the accreditation process for Dallas County Health and Human Services

The Foundation's initiative, Advancing Accreditation in Large Jurisdictions, was designed to supply financial and technical assistance to big cities and states to catalyze application to the Public Health Accreditation Board for accreditation of their public health agencies. This grant will enable Dallas County Health and Human Services to accelerate its readiness to submit a statement of intent (SOI) to apply for national accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). The first set of objectives will fulfill gaps in the department's current ability to meet accreditation measures. These objectives include: (1) creating a workforce-development plan based on core competencies for public health professionals; (2) assessing how well health care services and policies address cultural and linguistic competence; and (3) creating a continuity-of-operations plan for emergencies or natural disasters. The second set of objectives will facilitate the accreditation-application process, including: (1) developing and implementing software to monitor and facilitate completion of the remaining documentation needs and to support a performance-management team; and (2) providing training on evaluation and performance-management strategies to inform the choice of documentation for accreditation. Deliverables will include documentation of the completion of these objectives and submission of an SOI to apply for accreditation by PHAB by December 1, 2014.
