Strengthening the practice of public health law by increasing teaching abilities and expanding course offerings

The Foundation's program, Advancing Partners and Practice through Public Health Law, was designed to further build the field of public health law through enhancing communities of learning and practice. This grant supports a fellowship program for 10 professors of public health law and efforts to expand related course offerings and materials. The fellows, with approval from their deans, will participate in an intensive summer institute, work on course development, and create and direct other educational opportunities in public health law. Experienced faculty mentors will guide these efforts, which will be supplemented with connections to resources and organizations focused on public health law in the practice setting. To benefit the fellows and other faculty in this field, the grantee will develop a virtual library of online resources and case studies, provide networking opportunities, and recruit a senior faculty member as consultant to the program. Deliverables will also include courses and/or public-health-law experiences, such as clinics or seminars developed by the fellows, and a graduation ceremony attended by the fellows, faculty mentors, lead faculty and consultants.
