Pairing analysis of food-supply chains with market-development efforts to offer healthful, regionally sourced and sustainably produced school meals

This grant supports Public Health Solutions in conducting supply-chain research and development to increase the availability of regionally grown and minimally processed food in schools in an eight-state region in the upper Midwest. The activities will include supply-chain analyses, case studies on flash-frozen and minimally processed food, and expansion of the FOCUS School Food Showcase to support suppliers connected to school nutrition and catering. The primary deliverable will be a business plan with potential investment opportunities to increase healthy food offerings in the upper Midwest; other deliverables will be the creation of a leadership-level supplier task force to help inform the market analyses and new programming for the Showcase trade show.
