This grant supports the goals for the first two years of the five-year plan of the Leadership and Sustainability Institute for Black Male Achievement (LSI), which will support leaders committed to improving life outcomes for black men and boys and will link those leaders together nationally. LSI will provide this support through an integrated approach to capacity building, strategic-collaboration networks, and movement building. Goals in the first two years include establishing the infrastructure and management of LSI, developing the network of leaders who are advancing work in black male achievement, and providing 300 leaders and 150 organizations with specific leadership-development and capacity-building services. The Open Society Foundations' Campaign for Black Male Achievement is funding and leading LSI. Other funding partners, including the California Endowment, Heinz Foundation, Knight Foundation and Skillman Foundation, are providing financial support.
