Improving tribal public health agencies' awareness of and readiness for accreditation and quality improvement

This grant supports tribal health departments in increasing their readiness for accreditation and conducting quality improvement (QI). The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) collaborated with the Public Health Accreditation Board to develop tribal-specific standards for public health accreditation and inform the accreditation process so that it is relevant and responsive to tribal needs. To increase tribal leaders' and health directors' awareness of and involvement and input in QI and accreditation and to provide opportunities for peers to share their approaches and lessons learned, NIHB will: (1) convene quarterly the Tribal Public Health Accreditation Advisory Board; (2) develop an online national center for tribal accreditation readiness and QI resources, including stories from tribes preparing for accreditation and conducting QI; (3) conduct monthly webinars and teleconferences; (4) hold a workshop and breakout sessions at the 2013 National Tribal Public Health Summit; (5) foster an online collaboration forum for tribal public health professionals preparing for accreditation and conducting QI; (6) assist tribes in navigating current accreditation and QI resources; and (7) collaborate with Red Star Innovations to develop an accreditation guidebook and accreditation readiness train-the-trainer workshop.
