This grant supports quantitative research and analysis related to health insurance coverage and cost, including a comparison of the United States with countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Based on this analysis, as well as on an examination of historical, cultural and political factors, the grantee, Victor Fuchs, will seek to understand the barriers to achieving universal coverage in the United States. Deliverables will include publications in leading journals. Fuchs is one of the country's most prominent health economists and has a long history of working with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in conducting and publishing rigorous research.
