The Foundation's initiative, Evaluating Innovations in Nursing Education, was designed to identify, evaluate and disseminate innovative strategies to increase the teaching capacity of nursing schools, as well as to promote the recruitment and retention of nurse faculty, with the long-term goal of educating more students. This grant provides continued support for the National Program Office (NPO) of the Evaluating Innovations in Nursing Education program. The activities to be undertaken during the fifth project year will reflect the broadened scope of the research projects they are supporting -- in particular, the addition of the new round of research projects studying faculty issues central to achieving the recommendations outlined in the Institute of Medicine's report on the future of nursing. During the fourth year, five new grants were awarded with this theme. For these new grantees, fifth-year NPO activities will assist them in successfully launching their research projects and advising them on meeting the research milestones specified in their letters of agreement. For the prior cohorts of grantees, NPO activities will assist them in achieving the goals of generating and disseminating sound evidence with regard to the effectiveness of interventions and guidelines for successful replication. There will be a program meeting held during this funding period. In addition, attention will be devoted to analyzing cross-program measures of breadth of education and assessing the usefulness of the measures for the broader academic nursing community. Finally, efforts will be devoted to assisting nursing programs around the country make use of NuFAQs (Nurse Faculty Query) -- the interactive portal to findings from the national survey of nurse faculty.
