Building the business case for increased employer engagement in improving population health

The Foundation's initiative, Mobilizing Action Toward Community Health (MATCH), was designed to help communities translate the County Health Rankings into multisector action that addresses the social, economic, environmental and behavioral factors that affect health. This grant supports the Community Coalitions Health Institute of the National Business Coalition on Health (Coalition) in increasing awareness of the County Health Rankings and the importance of and strategies to improve population health among the Coalition's 56 member coalitions across the country. By making the business case for communitywide prevention efforts, providing funding opportunities, targeted training and technical assistance, and disseminating tools and case studies, the Coalition intends to increase awareness about the importance of communitywide prevention efforts and incentivize action to improve population health among employers and its members across the country. In addition to increasing awareness of the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps tools, deliverables for this grant will include: development of a return-on-investment calculator; updated presentation materials on population health; a technical assistance guide and technical assistance program for members; case studies and stories that highlight innovation and best practices among members; and funding for two member organizations to participate in a seed-grant program to incentivize the implementation of action plans for community health improvement. Additionally, the Coalition's staff will participate in monthly strategy calls with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps team from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute as a way to ensure coordination with the broader County Health Rankings & Roadmaps initiative.
