Increasing public health and safety by building connectivity between correctional and community health, 2012-2013

The Foundation's program, Community Oriented Correctional Health Services, was designed to (1) promote connectivity between correctional health care and community health care providers through demonstrated best practices and policies; and (2) replicate the JOCHS (Juvenile Oriented Correctional Health Services) model at three additional sites. This program contract supports Rosenberg & Associates in continuing the work previously conducted under the auspices of COCHS Inc. (Community Oriented Correctional Health Services) to promote connectivity between health care in jails and in communities through demonstrated best practices and policies. The COCHS approach addresses policy, finance, and practices at the federal, state and local levels that are relevant to the jail population and has received recognition in the fields of public safety, correctional health, and public health. Through convenings, policy analysis and technical assistance, this work will capitalize on the coverage and systems changes established in the Affordable Care Act to integrate county and city jails and the health care they provide with the broader community's safety net. Specific deliverables will be to: (1) provide technical assistance to multiple jurisdictions; (2) facilitate technical assistance meetings with federal agencies and with stakeholder groups; and (3) convene one national conference.
