Supporting the Council for a Strong America in enlisting new messengers to reframe the case for investment in public health
This grant supports the Council for a Strong America (Council) in engaging and elevating new leaders to make the case for investments in and support for public health and communitywide prevention efforts. By helping reframe the value of public health, prevention and tobacco control, this project will result in media coverage and policy outreach to build new, bipartisan support for evidence-based strategies to improve the quality and impact of public health. The Council will lead two related efforts as part of this project: (1) a tobacco prevention initiative; and (2) an initiative to engage business, police and military leaders in promoting key Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) reports on public health and prevention, including the County Health Rankings. Deliverables will include: (1) two local or state campaigns to engage business leaders in promoting tobacco-use prevention and laws for clean indoor air, including a media event, story placement, op-ed campaign, and at least two policymaker meetings in each state; (2) dissemination support for the 2013 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps release; and (3) support for at least one other RWJF-supported report that makes the case for public health and community wide prevention, including identifying and training national and local spokespeople and participating in a national release event and at least two local media events. The Council and its suborganizations engaged in this effort will not use RWJF funds for lobbying.
