Resilience in emergency-department workers following workplace violence -- Gordon Lee Gillespie, PhD, RN, FAEN

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars program was designed to increase the stature and academic standing of nursing faculty and draw more nurses to teaching careers by creating a cadre of national leaders in academic nursing through career development awards to outstanding junior nursing faculty.Dr. Gillespie was selected as a 2012 RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholar. The goals of his project are to: (1) analyze resilience in emergency department (ED) workers victimized by workplace violence; and (2) identify the modifiable individual and work-related characteristics that can promote resilience in those ED workers victimized by workplace violence. Over the next three years in the program, Dr. Gillespie will have 60 percent protected time to focus on program activities; receive financial support for career development activities in her research and scholarly focus area; work closely with institutional and national mentors to develop his career as an academic nurse leader; and receive training and mentoring in areas such as developing a research and academic career plan, securing research funding, integrating research and scholarship into teaching, exerting leadership through professional and university service, influencing health care policy through research, and developing skills to assume a senior leadership role in academic nursing
