This grant will enable the American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation (ANRF) to continue to support smoke-free-air campaigns in key states and municipalities to increase the percentage of the population protected from tobacco smoke. Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Comprehensive state and local smoke-free laws are a science-based intervention to reduce tobacco use and, in the process, tobacco-related disease, death and health care costs. Deliverables will include: (1) providing technical assistance, training, communications support, and rapid-response funding to smoke-free-air campaigns in key states, tribal nations, and municipalities, and (2) coordinating with national partners and their state and local networks to align policy efforts and share lessons learned across campaigns. With strategic counsel from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the Clean Air Strategy Group--comprising staffs from ANRF, the Center for Tobacco-Free Kids, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and American Lung Association--will make funding decisions on rapid-response projects, projects that accelerate momentum and that influence other states or communities in priority geographic locations. The Clean Air Strategy Group will also coordinate its members' technical assistance and communications support for these projects. The grantee will not use RWJF funds for lobbying.
