Demonstration of Early Detection, Intervention and Prevention of Psychosis in Adolescents and Young Adults

The Foundation's initiative, National Demonstration of Early Detection, Intervention and Prevention of Psychosis in Adolescents and Young Adults, was designed to replicate the Portland Identification and Early Referral (PIER) Program that uses evidence-based psychosocial and pharmacologic interventions in the early identification and treatment of adolescents and young adults with severe mental illness.The Portland Identification and Early Referral Program (PIER) is a groundbreaking clinical and research project based at Maine Medical Center, in Portland, dedicated to preventing the onset of severe mental illness, especially psychotic disorders, in teenagers and young adults (aged 12 -25). In the fifth year of funding for the Early Detection and Intervention for the Prevention of Psychosis Program (EDIPPP), the National Program Office (NPO) will focus on continued maintenance and monitoring of the replication sites for adherence to the clinical, research and administrative components, and the project evaluation. The NPO staff will provide ongoing training and supervision to grantees, including site visits, conference calls, and distance-based learning. Additionally, the NPO staff will focus on end-of-study issues, as well as determining the next steps for sharing the EDIPPP model with interested organizations.
