Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Health Leaders

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Health Leaders program was designed to provide recognition for the contributions community health leaders make to achieving RWJF's mission and goals and to enhance the capacity of these individuals to have a more permanent and widespread impact on health care problems.The program honors 10 individuals who have made significant contributions to improving the health and health care of their communities. Each Community Health Leader receives an award in the amount of $125,000. Twenty thousand dollars goes directly to the leader to recognize past accomplishments and $105,000 supports a project that continues and enhances the leader's work through an appropriate organization with which the leader is associated. Deborah Jastrebski, Founder and CEO, Practice Without Pressure, is a recipient of the 2011 Community Health Leaders Award. The project will be implemented in Newark, Delaware, and will support the development of an enhanced curriculum to train medical, dental, and other health clinicians to utilize specialized approaches when treating persons with disabilities. Project staff will recruit up to 20 medical and dental professionals to participate in classroom and hands-on training, including pre- and post-testing. The project will increase the competency of the participating professionals and produce a curriculum product for dissemination to schools, associations, and organizations that provide continuing education units for health professionals.
